Lessons from Behind the Frontline:
Rapid Deployment of Tele-home Monitoring of COVID-19 Patients

Providence St. Joseph Health leaders described how the organization is using digital health technology to monitor at-risk and COVID-19 positive patients at home. By leveraging a secure messaging platform that sends educational information and gathers assessment data on an automated schedule, the team receives regular updates on the patients’ symptoms. A triage dashboard helps nurses focus their time on patients who are deteriorating. The discussion included metrics related to patient adoption, nurse productivity, data for billing needs, and challenges the Providence team had to overcome, especially those related to the limitations of the EHR platform in managing this population of COVID-19 patients.
